As of March 2008
Asalaam-alaikum. I'm involved in several projects percolating in the constantly mutating
deen of the California Bay Area underground. These days, I tend to pick up gigs on short
notice because I'm trying to live up to my goal of being the Jack of All Trades, Master of
None I'm supposed to be, insha'allah. That's Mr. Jack of All Trades, Master of None
to you, slick.
-----
Recently, my latest electric cello has taken up most of my free time.
-----
Currently, I hang out and play with:
Divasonic, the musical world
of Oakland's own Lynda Arnold and friends. I chime in on cello and mountain dulcimer, which
as we all know are the two instruments any self-respecting electronica group should have.
Bekka's Frogland Orchestra,
of which I am an itinerant member responsible for providing crackerjack accompaniment
for Ms. Bekka on whatever stringed instrument I happen to have in the trunk of my car,
with little or no rehearsal. It's made me a better man.
The Levins, who are
creators of, um, Ecumenical Soulfolk - we're still in search of proper terminology.
Our ongoing recording project will soon transmogrify into live performances, insha'allah.
-----
At present, I'm hard at work teaching myself to play
mandolin in ways that
would horrify traditionalists, lurking at
The Crucible in Oakland
CA learning about welding and sculpture
in metal and stone, working as a software engineer, and planning a new recording and solo
performances in 2008.
